Kamba Maize (Indigenous Drought-Tolerant Corn) A medium-height, open-pollinated maize variety developed through generations of farmer selection in semi-arid regions. Seeds germinate within 5-10 days at soil temperatures above 60°F and maintain viability for 2-3 years. Plant 1-2 inches deep with 12-inch spacing in zones 7-11. This resilient variety matures in 80-90 days with good resistance to maize streak virus. Special characteristics include exceptional heat tolerance up to 100°F, ability to produce modest yields even during rainfall shortages, effective wind resistance due to robust stalk strength, improved protein content compared to modern hybrids, and flint-type kernels that store exceptionally well.
