Manduu Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), a traditional East African variety from the Fabaceae family, feature medium-sized, oval seeds (8-9mm long) with distinctive dark brown to black coloration. Seeds germinate in 7-12 days, maturing in 85-100 days, with plants growing 40-55cm tall requiring 25-35cm spacing. Plant 2-2.5cm deep after last frost in well-draining soil with pH 6.0-7.0. These beans prefer full sun, moderate water, and minimal fertilization, showing good resistance to common bean diseases while tolerating varied growing conditions. Harvest when pods dry and turn brown, yielding approximately 1.4kg per square meter. Seeds store 2-3 years when properly dried and are valued in African cuisine for their earthy flavor and creamy texture in traditional stews.
