Ngano White (White Wheat) A locally-adapted wheat variety with excellent drought tolerance suited for mid-altitude regions. Seeds germinate within 5-10 days at soil temperatures between 60-75°F and remain viable for 4-5 years when stored in cool, dry conditions. Plant 1-2 inches deep with 6-inch spacing in rows 7-10 inches apart in zones 6-9. Matures in 110-130 days with moderate resistance to rust and smut diseases. This variety produces high-protein grain (12-14%) with exceptional baking qualities. Special characteristics include strong tillering capacity, good standability during heavy rains, and adaptability to variable soil conditions with optimal pH 6.0-7.0.
